The Latin root of the English word sacred is sacer, which means "to set aside." This is a small fact, but something clicked when I learned of it.
For many younger people, religion has been falling to the wayside, with people searching for a life of meaning and purpose. Many find meaning through their spiritual journey by exploring meditation, mindfulness, prayer, journaling, and more.
However, many still feel like they are falling short or as if a piece of the puzzle is missing. The mystery of life will never fully be understood, but I have felt this disconnect when I have fallen out of practice with the things that ground and reconnect me to life. I discovered this when I created a list of non-negotiable actions, things that I must do every day, and when I don't, I began to notice discontent within myself.Â
While some of the items on my non-negotiable list are simple things that influence my overall health, like fitting in movement and eating a variety of vegetables each day, others influence my mental and spiritual health, including journaling, meditation, and spending time outdoors. When I carve out time in my busy schedule for these things, it helps connect me to the present moment, keeping my mind clearer and more open to receiving messages from the universe, which can remind me of the love that always exists around me.
Whatever it looks like, there is room for sacredness in your day-to-day. Whether it's a mindful pause while preparing your cup of coffee, paying more attention to the world around you on your drive to work, or carving out thirty minutes in the morning to journal, self-reflect, or meditate. By making the active choice to bring awareness and intention to something and then staying firm on your commitment to that thing, you are bringing sacredness to your day, and with this devotion to mindfulness comes the opportunity to find deeper meaning and purpose throughout your life.
The only missing piece is you and your awareness.
