Can’t Take It With You

And I don’t know where I’ll go from here. But I do know that I am grateful for this time.

We can’t take anything with us when we go, and though we try to cram in experiences, destinations, and activities, we also cannot collect these things.

Everything in life is borrowed. We do not own it. The only experience we are promised is this present moment. And this present moment does not need to be perfectly crafted or spent exploring the world, attending the best events, surrounded by certain people, or doing the coolest of things. In fact, nothing, in particular, is required to make this moment and this life beautiful. Joy does not come from doing the most or being the best. Joy is simply a state of mind, a conscious decision to feel gratitude for all that comes our way.

And you, my friend, have a beautiful life. It’s filled with ups and downs, happiness and sadness. And by living it, fully experiencing it, and becoming unafraid to embrace all the aspects of life, even the hard parts - that opens your heart to feeling the joy and seeing the beauty that exists in this current moment. This opens the gates, flooding your life with color, allowing pleasure to arise from the quiet and chaotic parts of your day, and bringing more meaning to your life.
